Research showed that participants who had acne and applied the CBD cream to only one side of their face just two times a day witnessed a huge decrease in sebum (the extra oil that causes acne) and redness. It was calculated that the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD were an effective treatment for skin conditions.

Studies like these have been backed by dermatologists such as Dr Jeanette Jacknin. A California-based dermatologist, she spoke at the American Academy of Dermatology about the potential use of topical CBD in skin care and the potential of cannabis to be the next big thing in anti aging skin care routines.

She said, “There are two recent studies that show the importance of CB1 receptors in the skin for healthy basal cell regeneration. Basal cells have to regenerate and grow. If they don’t, you look much older.

Of course, that doesn’t mean using cannabinoids will result in permanently younger skin.Jacknin went on to say, “Using CBD oil for antiaging won’t be like retinol. CBD is just an extra thing to add to the mix as part of a skin care regimen. Unsaturated fatty acids help with moisturizing and CBD helps with inflammation.”

The best thing about CBD is that it can be sold in all 50 states as long as it comes from industrial hemp.

In states where recreational use is legal, manufacturers are able to create and sell creams with much higher concentrations of CBD. And they are taking advantage of this opportunity. Often, these higher level creams are considered to be much better treatments than the nationally available ones.

Consumer Demand is Leading the Way

But it’s consumers who are driving demand for these cannabis-based products. CBD was first used for pain relief and, having learnt of its qualities, many consumers are seeking out CBD products to offer pain relief for patches of irritable skin.

Sufferers of more complex skin conditions, such as psoriasis—an autoimmune disease that causes rough scaly and itchy skin—are experimenting with CBD products, too.

CBD oils and creams are often a much better alternative to steroid-based treatments that can be incredibly expensive and hard to get without a prescription.

The effects of CBD products have also been found to be much longer lasting than more conventional treatments. They also come with far less side effects than traditional medicines, which can cause things such as hair loss.

What To Look For in CBD Products

It is clear that CBD-based oils and creams have huge potential for helping people deal with a range of skin conditions.

But consumers must take care. This is a very new product to the industry and any CBD that isn’t derived from hemp is not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

As such, what is listed on the label may not necessarily be what is in the product. CBD could be the solution you are looking for, but its effectiveness depends on the quality and the amount in the cream or oil. Consumers must take extra precaution when using a CBD product therefore.

Why The Ingredient Deck is Key

If you’re unsure about a CBD product, there is a quick and easy test you can use to see if it may be effective. This won’t mean the product is guaranteed to work, but it can help you pick out bad products more easily.

The trick is to look at the list of the ingredients on the back of the CBD product. If CBD is the last or one of the last items listed in the ingredients, there isn’t going to be much in there at all. You are better off spending your money on a different product.
